Plečnik, the City and Me
PodiumsdiskussionThe project is an inquiry into Plečnik’s urban interventions. A master in improving public space through specific and rigorous changes in the urban environment, he was particularly adept at using small-scale design ideas to produce larger positive effects.
Plečnik connected diverse spatial elements to weave a complementary urban tissue, which makes cities more complex, denser and richer. This approach to city planning is today more innovative than ever: contemporary architects reference Plečnik as an inspiration for their projects in public space. The Quito Papers, a UN Habitat sponsored document on urban planning (2016), focuses on the idea of creating complex environments through cross-linking spatial components and urban functions.
The evening coincides with the publication of the dossier “Plečnik, the City and Me” on the open text architecture platform Architectuul. com. It is a follow-up of an open editorial conference which was held at the Plečnik House in Ljubljana on October 20 2017.
