St. Martin´s Cathedral – listed National Cultural Monument
ArchitekturtageIn 1563-1830 the St. Martin´s Cathedral was a coronation cathedral of Austro-Hungarian Empire - 11 kings and queens including Queen Maria Theresa were coroneted here. On the basis of the former Roman Church of St. Salvator the cathedral started to rise into its form in late 14th century. The crypts are a less known phenomenon of the site on the fragments of the former cemetery – there are more than 90 graves and three crypts recovered from the entire excavation complex. Two crypts are accessible from the St. Anne´s Chapel and the third one is the Palffy family Crypt under the main altar with the access from exterior.
